Hasselblad Flextight X5 – Professional Film Scanner

The Hasselblad Flextight X5 is a high-end professional film scanner designed for photographers, photo laboratories, museums, archives, and fine-art imaging professionals who require exceptional detail and color reproduction from photographic film.

Virtual Drum Scanning Technology

One of the most important features of the Flextight X5 is its virtual drum design. The flexible film holder bends the original during scanning, providing excellent film flatness without requiring glass or oil mounting. This helps achieve very sharp scans while reducing problems associated with dust, reflections, and Newton rings.

High Optical Resolution

The X5 provides optical resolution of up to 8000 dpi, depending on the film format being scanned. This makes it particularly suitable for extracting fine detail from 35mm originals while also supporting professional scanning of medium- and large-format film.

Exceptional Dynamic Range

With a specified Dmax of up to 4.9, the Flextight X5 is designed to capture information from both dense shadow areas and highlights. This is especially valuable when digitizing difficult transparencies, negatives, and professionally exposed archival film.

Supported Originals

The Flextight X5 is capable of handling a wide variety of photographic originals, including:

- 35mm negatives and transparencies

- Medium-format film

- Large-format film up to 4 × 5 inches

- Reflective originals up to approximately A4 size

Different Flextight film holders are used according to the film format.

Professional Image Quality

The X5 uses a high-quality CCD scanning system and supports high-bit-depth color capture. Combined with Hasselblad's FlexColor software and 3F workflow, the scanner was developed for applications where accurate color, tonal information, sharpness, and maximum preservation of the original film are important.

Automatic Film Handling

The scanner's distinctive vertical construction and flexible holder system allow the original to travel through the scanning mechanism in a controlled curved path. The photograph shown with the front panels open provides an excellent view of the X5's internal scanning mechanism, optical assembly, transport system, and illumination area.

Designed for Professional Archives

Although digital cameras have largely replaced film in commercial photography, enormous collections of valuable negatives and transparencies still exist worldwide. A scanner of this class remains especially useful for:

Film archives • museums • professional laboratories • fine-art reproduction • historical collections • photographers' archives • high-resolution commercial digitization
